What is Garden Decor?

Garden decor is just about everything you can have in your backyard other than the plants and flowers. From birdhouses to water features there are dozens of options and the best yet, you don’t have to use any of them if you don’t want to. It’s not a race amongst neighbors. Once you like the way your garden looks like, don’t even touch a thing, the decor does its thing silently.

The most practical pieces in your garden are going to be the furniture. They’re the only pieces you can install in your garden that not only contribute to the looks and feel of your garden but serve as a practical element you can use. Try a wrought iron bench or a hammock, and you’ll see that the garden is not just for looking at it and working on the plants.

Bird houses and bird feeders are also part of the garden decor; they make the place look like it has a purpose. Not only that but these feeders are usually used during the winter when birds are in need of them the most. During the winter deciduous trees lose their leaves, so you can’t look at them for their vibrant colors. They might as well serve as a stand for a bird house or a feeder.

Not everything serves a greater purpose and most of the decor elements fall into this group. Statues and dwarves are there to give focal point to the area and to balance colors found around them. They don’t cost a small fortune and are pleasant to look at. Just buy one and you’ll find that they’re great at filling the holes in your garden design. They can be made of wood, concrete or wrought iron for the more non-figurative parts, but generally speaking you’re sometimes cheaper off with a statue than another plant.

If you have a small pond in your garden, filter it as you should, and be sure to include some movement, you can use fountains and other water features to achieve this. Adding features such as half barrels cut to fit the depth of the pond, underwater plants for the fish or any other arrangement around or in the pond. The main benefit is that they’re just as cheap as a dwarf and can make a huge difference in the first impression the whole view gives to your guests.

If you have an outdoor kitchen or at least a patio in your backyard, you should as well do something about your garden. Most of the time just planting the flowers and trees is not enough as they change their appearance through seasons and the place may look empty at some time or another.
