Controlling Weed Plants in Your Garden?

Photo by Gregory BastienIf you are at all interested in taking care of your garden, you’ll face the problem of weeds throwing a party in the middle of your lawn sooner or later. You can either be the environmentalist and let them grow to their hearts content, or take a drastic turn killing them all off. If it’s just some clover growing at random spots throughout the grass surface, you can leave them where they are. In case you’re looking at a group nettle plants, you should grab the grass trimmer and hack away.
Most people don’t like weeds growing in their garden as they please. When it’s some clover, you don’t need to worry as it’s a fairly safe plant to have around. When it drops its leaves it nitrifies the soil for the grass around. Sometimes clover seeds are added to the grass mix for this very reason. They also grow fast and shoot up multiple times after being beheaded with a power trimmer. It may be a pro if you actually want to cultivate the specie and a curse for those who would like to get rid of the buggers.
They aren’t harmful in any way unless an even-looking immaculate lawn is amongst your short term goals. Clover leaves are generally darker than blades of grass and they love to grow in patches leaving an unkempt sight. The best way of getting rid of them is manually removing them along with their roots. This method is environmentally friendly, you get to spend time in your garden and on the fresh air, and they’re unlikely to grow back once their roots are removed. The disadvantage of crawling around hunting for clovers become apparent for those who run an 18 hole golf course.
Removing nettle by hand can also be a nuisance. Fortunately there is a much more convenient way for people who are more concerned about the looks of their lawn than the environmental factor. An herbicide solution called 2-4D is pronounced safe both by US and European councils and there is no proven link between it and some of the most common mortality factors. It means that you can use 2-3 teaspoons of 2,4D solved in five gallons of water to kill all broad-leaf plants on your lawn without doing much harm to anything else. It’s a selective herbicide, which means it doesn’t affect grass the least bit.
If the weeds don’t want to hit it, up the dose by two teaspoons of 2,4D per five gallons, and repeat the process after two weeks until there is nothing left but the pristine and well maintained grass.
Lawn Ornaments

Photo by Mimi_KA garden without any decoration is just a bunch of plants arranged in an aesthetic way. To get something more than that you only have a few options on your hands. You can alter the appearance of the place by adding lights, ponds and other pieces of decoration. Lawn ornaments are typically these decorative elements put on a grassy area of the backyard. They can be bird houses, gnomes, fountains, garden urns and probably another dozen different categories.
A lawn ornament is basically anything that serves a decorative purpose on a grassy area. The most popular choices are the plastic flamingos, garden gnomes and different kinds of statues. With a little stretch of the imagination, we can classify plant stands and garden urns here as well, mostly because their purpose is the exact same; to make the garden a more welcoming, more vivid place. The flamingo is a rather new invention on the market but it seems to have gained widespread popularity in the United States since the 50′s. There are even official edition flamingos sold in pairs so that those who are into collectibles can follow this tendency.
The purpose of lawn ornaments is purely decorative. Only a few pieces actually make any sense in a garden, or anywhere else, and they are bird baths, bird feeders and possibly some plant holders. Once you’ve arranged everything in the garden to your liking there is not much to do unless you give in and install a few of these. Add some lights, and make the place lively even during winters.
The best place to accommodate the ornaments in your garden is … everywhere. There are so many different types of decorations available both online and offline that you will find one for any spot. Put a yard ball in the middle of the garden, or place it next to an arch. Use gnomes to make some not so spectacular plants a good composition to look at. As a general rule of thumb, thrive for balance in both colors, density of design elements and make the garden functional by not blocking natural walk paths. Also think about safety first, it is probably not a good idea to place heavy wrought iron or concrete objects next to a swimming pool, to avoid any accidents.
The price of lawn ornaments range from $5 to $50,000 and entirely depend on the actual item. Always keep in mind that while you can have great deals online, it may be a bit harder to order a 200 lbs heavy garden urn than to buy it locally. Other than that, through the net should be your first bet.
5 Uses For Garden Urns

Photo by Ruth FlickrGarden urns are just one of the many different ways to arrange plants in the garden. Or are they? What else could be so practical yet stylish, so durable against weather yet so easy to break? These urns are used in almost every garden and there is a good reason for that, they’re easy to get and so practical when compared with their relatively low price. In case you were wondering how to spend $50 to $100 on your garden in a way that makes sense, think about them for a second as an option.
Garden urns are not made of a dozen different materials. You get to choose from concrete, marble or plastic for the very low cost solutions. All three are rather durable against weather but if you want yours to have at least a hint of style, you’ll avoid plastic as long as possible. It’s flexible, hard to break, durable, waterproof but can look as ugly as something in a garden gets.
If you’re thinking about reasons to buy an urn you can put more flowers in, you should think of it this way; why would you not buy one? Here are a few reasons to pick one or two up from the store. They can be used indoors at the entrance adding elegance to the opening of your home by making them living statues. They’re basically large pots usually with a long neck so that they end up being about 3-4 feet tall and 1-5 feet in diameter. They’re not that hard to find a spot for. Second, Buy a big one and make it the center of your garden. It sometimes is best to have one central piece along with a bench to sit and contemplate the day. Creativity is all you need to make incredible monuments of interest.
Clay, marble and other stone derivatives can withstand any amount of water so feel free to arrange them in the garden without thinking about the weather at all. Put them next to the pool should you fancy having them there. In the middle of the pond with a small bridge leading to it is another option. There are just so many ways to arrange them that it’d take hours to go through all of them.
In case you were wondering where to get them, everything is available online and can be delivered to your doormat in 24 hours.
Most online retailers are very frugal and do not employ any staff to manage stocks, take orders, and keep the shop clean and to smile, so you can save all that money. Or, as another option you may take a look at them online just to have an idea about the prices, and buy a garden urn in your local home and garden shop. They’re so cheap that it doesn’t make much sense to not buy one; think about the different styles and designs instead.
